Who Wants to Be a Superhero?

July 3rd, 2006 · by jdroth · No Comments

Several months ago I posted about the upcoming Sci-Fi channel “reality” show, Who Wants to Be a Superhero?

If you have a great imagination, love adventure, and have a hero hiding inside of you, we want you on this show. Students, teachers, firemen, soccer moms — you’re all invited to try out to see if you’ve got what it takes. From thousands of hopefuls, Stan Lee will choose eleven lucky finalists to move into a secret lair and compete for the opportunity to become a real-life superhero.

It almost sounds like a hoax, right? It’s real. Very real. The official Who Wants to be a Superhero website is now live. You can watch a short preview, read about the premise, and, best of all, take a gander at the “superheroes”:

  • Feedback — Absorbs powers and abilities from video games that he plays.
  • Fat Momma — Can grow to five times her normal size when she gets angry.
  • Nitro G — Though it rarely comes up during his crimefighting, Nitro G is a poet and artist at heart.
  • Lemuria — Shoots laserbeams and fireballs.
  • Iron Enforcer — Densest bone structure of any human.
  • Monkey Woman — High-tech weapons and gadgets disguised as bananas.
  • Major Victory — Can manipulate sound waves to create noises or throw his voice.
  • Cell Phone Girl — Can teleport from one active cell phone to another; eyes can take digital photos.
  • Ty’Veculus — Always detects lies because he can only hear the truth.
  • Creature — Can heal others with fruit and raw foods; shoots fire-beams; wields a magical bullwhip; throws knives with unerring precision.
  • Levity — Received his powers after being caught in an eruption of Mt. St. Helens. Is especially devoted to protecting gay people from harassment.

This SciFi-channel series will debut on July 27th. I am not making this up.
