Outland is a Jim Steranko comics adaptation of an underrated science fiction film from 1980. The film, which starred Sean Connery, was a sort of High Noon in space, set on Io, one of Jupiter’s moons. It’s not a masterpiece, but it’s a solid piece of science fiction set in a universe that blends seamlessly with Alien or Blade Runner.

I wasn’t aware that there was ever a comics adaptation, let alone an adaptation by one of the modern masters of the medium. (It was serialized over several issues of Heavy Metal magazine.) How and why the entire work has been posted online, I do not know, but I am grateful for it. It’s a brilliant bit of comics storytelling. (Check out the fellow’s entire site: it’s devoted to the art of Jim Steranko.)
